Elvan House Piling Mat
Crofty Construction delivered a reinforced piling platform on a challenging sloping site, creating a safe and stable working area for the specialist piling contractor on a development of 12 luxury apartments.
Project overview
At Elvan House, Crofty Construction was appointed to construct a reinforced piling platform on a steep, restricted coastal plot in Cornwall, preparing the ground for a new development of 12 luxury apartments.
The brief: the site fell sharply towards the road, with neighbouring properties close on every side. The specialist piling contractor needed a level, load-bearing platform capable of safely supporting heavy piling rigs, along with safe access onto and around the working area.
Our work: following site clearance and earthworks, we placed and compacted engineered 6F2 and 6F5 fill in controlled layers, incorporating geogrid reinforcement to spread loads and improve platform stability.
An access ramp and embankments were formed to bring plant safely onto the platform, while temporary retaining works using interlocking concrete blocks held back the surrounding ground and protected adjacent boundaries throughout the works.
Project outcome: the completed platform provided a safe, stable and level working area, handed over ready for the piling contractor to begin, keeping the wider development on programme.
Project highlights: engineered 6F2/6F5 fill with geogrid reinforcement; access ramp and embankments on a challenging slope; and temporary retaining works delivered safely on a tight coastal site.
